"So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees." 1 Kings 18:42
I continue to pray for President Obama this week. As our country creeps closer and closer to the time of elections, it seems that every other headline is criticising this person or that person- and even people in office who are not up for re-election at this time. The emotions in this country are just not good at this time, and I really pray that President Obama will spend some time talking to God. I pray that God will become real to him and that he will seek answers from the only one who has the answers.
As I read in 1 Kings this morning, I stumbled upon some truths that I am praying over our country. This verse I posted above, shows the prophet bending down on his knees in supplication before God- for the benefit of the country he is in. And God answered Elijah. God sent the rain that hadn't fallen in years.
But before that, Elijah called upon the Lord, God and demonstrated before all the prophets of Baal, and King Ahab, who really is God. God sent the fire down that consumed everything in its path- including water, and at the end of the demonstration, the people fell down and worshiped the one and true God.
"When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, "The LORD -he is God! The LORD -he is God!" 1 Kings 18:39
May we, who have a heart for God, and for the United States of America, fall to our knees and petition the Lord God for peace and mercy on this country. May God do something so awesome and powerful that our neighbors can do nothing except fall down themselves and worship Him.
But more than that, I'm praying for an Elijah. I'm praying for a man of God to come alongside President Obama and help reveal the truths that are hiding from the president. And may the president hear this person and find that God IS his God, as well as this country's God.
This week I am also praying for mercy. Currently, Hurricane Earl is headed for the Carolina coasts, and I pray that God would weaken that storm and spare the people who live in that area. It could turn in many directions and head for many different coastlines on the East Coast, and I pray for supernatural protection for those people who call that area home. May God have mercy on that region of the country and spare them from serious harm and destruction of property.
