The Rains

"Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before." Joel 3:23

This verse gave me a chuckle today. We spent so much of summer with dryness...with dead brown grass and plants, and the other day I was pushing Zander on the swing and thinking how wonderful the green grass was. How lovely that God granted us a little more time with the green stuff before fall started rolling in. And while the trees and bushes and plants are all starting to get that coppery tinge to them, I love the green grass while we have it.

He sends abundant showers in autumn and spring- and isn't that the truth. We get all the rain in the spring to help set seeds and encourage the plants to grow. Then we get all the rain in the fall to give nutrients back to the ground after a long growing season, and to prepare the ground for next spring. The miracle of life is certainly not wasted on me. Even though I know the science behind it, it still fascinated me that God created such an ecosystem. Every part of it is intricate and works together, from the weather to the insects. It takes an amazing God to design the endless variety of plants, and the endless variety of plants for every climate!

We have an amazing and great God who can do anything! Anything! Whether that be creating a new species of plant, or providing a new job- he can do it, and today I will be clinging to that, and the idea that he will do so, because we've asked him so heartily for it.
